Jaco Pastorius, a revolutionary in bass playing, died on September 21, 1987, after suffering a severe blow to the head in a fight. A little over a year before, this audience shot captures a live performance with a trio. Although the footage is of the audience, it's shot from a fixed camera directly in front of the stage, likely recorded for record purposes by someone involved. The resulting shots are very clear and enjoyable. Of course, the camera moves around to each player, allowing for a clear view of the performance. Jaco wasn't even in Japan during this period, leaving Japanese fans wondering what he was up to. Yet, the trio delivered a truly magnificent performance. Jaco Pastorius plays electric bass, Bireli Lagrene guitar, and Michael Kersting drums. Jaco's playing is naturally impressive, but Bireli Lagrene's technique is equally captivating, delivering a performance that feels like an evolution of a Jimi Hendrix live performance.
