Madonna's first concert tour, "The Virgin Tour," took place at the height of her popularity following the phenomenal worldwide success of her album "Like a Virgin." While a world tour was initially planned, it was realized as a North American tour limited to the US and Canada from April to May 1985. Featuring the Beastie Boys as an opening act, every show sold out, creating a sensational live debut that swept the US into a frenzy. While footage of the Detroit performance from this tour was later released on video, it was an edited version that omitted three songs, rather than the entire concert. The setlist, featuring hit singles from both albums as well as "Crazy for You" and "Gambler," from the film "Vision Quest," truly epitomizes Madonna's early career. While the setlist is generally the same for each performance, the live vocals and performances are entirely live, with variations in solo parts and stage progressions, making for a truly live performance experience. Each live archive recording is a high-quality stereo soundboard recording. While most previously available recordings were incomplete or degraded mono versions, this release features the best-quality original remastering, newly restored and edited from the raw masters. In addition, bonus tracks from sound checks and tour rehearsals are included after each complete performance, capturing Madonna's dedication to live performance. This is a valuable archive recording of Madonna's first full-scale concert debut, marking her first arena tour, after previously only performing live in clubs and on TV. Compared to the highly polished shows that followed, beginning with the '87 World Tour, this compendium of live recordings captures the unique charm of the '80s "The Virgin Tour," showcasing a fresh, coquettish performance and a dedicated dedication.

The first "The Virgin Tour" live anthology, "First Virgin," features two complete stereo soundboard recordings: the April 15, 1985, show in Portland, Oregon, and the April 28, 1985, show at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles, California. The Portland show, which follows the tour-opening Seattle show, offers a uniquely early tour experience with differences in the MC and concert progression. Bonus tracks include "Dress You Up" and "Lucky Star." The Universal Amphitheater show in Los Angeles has also been remastered and upgraded for a complete, flawless recording. Bonus tracks include "Burning Up" and "Borderline" from rehearsals at the same venue.
