1967's Magical Mystery Tour, the Beatles' first self-produced film, is now available as a 2-disc collector's edition on the SGT label! This is the ultimate collector's edition, nearly four hours long, featuring a newly remastered version in widescreen and 5.1 surround, the traditional TV version, a video album featuring the entire album, and extras including unreleased footage and documentaries! While "Magical Mystery Tour" was panned upon its release for its surreal content symbolizing the psychedelic era, it is now highly acclaimed as a cutting-edge music video. While it has been released on video before, this time it features a newly remastered version in widescreen and 5.1 surround, the traditional TV version, a video album featuring the entire album, including singles like "All You Need Is Love" and "Strawberry Fields Forever," and extras including unreleased footage and a documentary filmed by the original cast. This collector's edition runs nearly four hours in total. Originally broadcast on TV in 1967, this work was first officially released on video in 1988, featuring a newly remixed and remastered soundtrack by George Martin, along with a new conversion of the footage.
A further video release was released in 2001 with a new remixed soundtrack, but both releases are currently out of print.
This release features footage from the 2001 version, converted from the high-quality European PAL master to NTSC. The widescreen version on Disc 1 features the 2001 new mix in stereo and 5.1 surround, while the untrimmed, traditional TV-size version features the 1988 remix in stereo. This allows you to compare the two sources and hear the significant differences in the mixes, including the title track.
Additionally, the Video Album section features newly edited footage from 2010, including alternate edits from the main feature, familiar promotional footage, and promotional videos, including the singles on the album's B-side, making this an album you can "listen to while you watch." The audio can be selected to be in stereo, just like the original album, or in 5.1 surround sound, allowing you to enjoy the highest quality in both picture and sound.
