SODD has released a high-quality recording straight from the mixing desk of the dress rehearsal held just before the start of the "Steel Wheels Tour" in the summer of 1989! It features the full performance of "Shattered," which fell off the set during a malfunction on the first day of the tour! While there were various theories about the location and date at the time of the leak, the rehearsal is believed to have taken place at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia from August 27th to 30th. The recording on "1" is believed to have been taken on August 28th, and the recording on "2" is believed to have been taken on August 29th. The source is a so-called line source directly from the mixer desk! The sound quality is high-quality, even though it's mono. While the balance isn't perfect, it still produces a vivid sound! Perhaps because it's almost the final check, the band members seem more relaxed than they would at a live concert. Some songs are performed seriously, others are played casually, and others are laughing while singing, creating a different atmosphere for fans. On the 28th, the entire staff seemed to be rehearsing, and the performance was relatively calm. On the 29th, however, the cheers of a large crowd were clearly enjoying the performance. Perhaps in response, Mick also made some MC-like remarks here and there, and commented several times on the day's weather. As it was just before the show, the setlist and performance were close to the actual performance. However, a rare highlight is "Shattered," which was never completed on this tour due to equipment trouble midway through the first day's performance. On the 28th, "Miss You" and "Tumbling Dice" were performed in that order, and it's likely the performance order was decided after this rehearsal. In terms of arrangement, the ending of "Rock And A Hard Place" on both days is different from the second day of the tour onwards, and the intro to "Jumpin' Jack Flash" is arranged to conform to the studio version up until the middle of the tour. As a sound source of a dress rehearsal that you normally wouldn't be able to attend, it is valuable in itself, but it is also a classic sound source that allows you to enjoy a different atmosphere from the tour with high sound quality, and it is an interesting gem that anyone who hasn't heard it should definitely listen to.
